In just over two years in the WNBA, the Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark has justified the hype surrounding her since her college days. The two-time All-Star has been widely accepted as a generational star and the face of the league, and continues to earn plaudits on a gamely basis.
Now, WNBA legend Nancy Lieberman has gone ahead and compared CC’s impact with that of some of the biggest athletes the United States has ever seen, in the form of Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods, per a post on X by Jackson Thompson. Lieberman suggested that the $2.2 billion Collective Bargaining Agreement that the WNBA has recently unveiled is effectively down to Clark’s presence.
“Well you can’t deny she brings the media. You are talking about her. You probably weren’t talking about anybody four years ago. I mean, she has done her job, just like Tiger did, just like Michael Jordan did. She is a generational player,” Lieberman explained.

And well, it is hard to argue otherwise. Since her arrival back in 2024, Clark has sold the second-most jerseys across the NBA and the WNBA, surpassing names such as LeBron James, Victor Wembanyama and Luka Doncic, and second only to the shooting phenomenon that is Stephen Curry.
“She came with a fanbase of millions, and it’s helping the league. They don’t get the 2.2 billion bargaining agreement without her being there,” Lieberman said.
She went on to claim that several young WNBA stars today have an “incredible fanbase” that has followed them since college, citing the “millons” they have been earning since their college days through NIL deals.
“So we shouldn’t be jealous of them, we should celebrate them, not tolerate them,” she concluded.
Lieberman went on to compare Clark’s impact to Michael Jordan’s, claiming that just how people were once “amped up” to see the Chicago Bulls legend play, she is able to command a similar excitement in fans today. And while CC undoubtedly has a long way to go as far as her career is concerned, Lieberman is certainly right about the kind of impact she has had on the league in general.
