The Detroit Red Wings were delivered a massive bombshell recently when it became public knowledge that captain Dylan Larkin had requested a trade. Larkin had spent his entire career with his hometown Red Wings. But he has decided to move on and face a new challenge.
Initially, it seemed as if the Detroit captain would only work with a few teams. Reports indicated he had a three-team list consisting of the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, and Vegas Golden Knights. However, it appears as if this list could be changing soon.
“Yzerman went back to (Larkin’s agent Pat Brisson) and asked to expand their original list of three teams, and my sense is that Brisson was receptive to that to some degree. So I don’t think we’re just dealing with the Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights and Florida Panthers anymore,” The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun reported on Wednesday evening.
Larkin has served as captain of the Red Wings since the 2020-21 campaign. As mentioned, he has spent his entire 10-year career in the Motor City. In that time, he has scored 276 goals and 643 points through 808 regular-season games.
However, the 29-year-old veteran center has not had much in the way of playoff hockey. In fact, he has only made the playoffs once, during his rookie season. The Red Wings were eliminated in five games by the Tampa Bay Lightning in that run.
Larkin appears ready to move on, and general manager Steve Yzerman may be looking to fulfill his request. It will certainly be interesting to see how far his list expands and which teams end up making the list.
