Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal has been working his way back from elbow surgery. On Thursday, the Tigers announced that Skubal will return on Saturday against the Cleveland Guardians. Skubal is set to make his return against one of the best teams in the American League Central as he hopes to help the Tigers bounce back in the standings.

Skubal has pitched to a 2.70 ERA across seven outings this season. The Tigers have struggled without him without question. If they continue to struggle, Skubal will likely be traded before the deadline as he is going to enter free agency following the season. The two-time Cy Young winner could help Detroit make things interesting in the AL Central, though.
At the moment, the Tigers are 8.5 games behind the Chicago White Sox for first place in the division. They are eight games behind the Guardians for second place. A 28-40, it has been a difficult season for the ball club. However, they are not out of the postseason picture yet. They are only 5.5 games back of an AL Wild Card spot.
Either way, Tarik Skubal returning in the middle of June will help the Tigers. He will either have time to build up his trade value or he will give the Tigers the boost they need to make a competitive run.
On Thursday, Detroit is set to play the final game of their current three-game series against the Minnesota Twins. The Tigers will then begin a three-game series against the Guardians in Cleveland on Friday.
