Mike Florio puts judge on blast for Brendan Sorsby ruling

With the ruling involving Texas Tech football quarterback Brendan Sorsby as a major talking point in the sports world, another sports analyst calls out the judge who was the catalyst in deciding the player could return to the field. As some schools will boycott the Texas Tech football program in response to the Sorsby ruling, Mike Florio is calling for accountability regarding the decision.

Speaking on “Pro Football Talk,” Florio would start talking about why there are some groups of people that are either happy or not about the decision, but want to see people “setting aside their own interests.” On top of that, he puts the judge on blast for how the official decision from the court “tells us nothing” about the reasoning.

“No one is taking a step back, no one is setting aside their own interests, no one is bothering to ask themselves what’s really right here, and the problem is the decision from the court, four pages, tells us nothing about why this decision was reached, tells us nothing about how the facts and the policies and the law intertwine, it would be a lot easier for anyone to understand what the right thing to do is if we had the benefit of exactly how the judge got from point A to point B,” Florio said.

What started the sentiment from Florio on the ruling of the Texas Tech football quarterback in Sorsby, who has been involved in a major gambling scandal, is speaking about the various sets of people who have reacted to the decision. From the school itself, celebrating the decision to the NCAA and other conferences showing their disappointment, Florio exclaims he is “waiting for someone to say or do the right thing.”

“We have heard many voices chime in, and the one thing I’ve noticed is they’re all saying what we would expect them to say,” Florio said Thursday.

At any rate, it remains to be seen what else comes out of the recent ruling on Sorsby being eligible to play in 2026.
