New York Mets star Luis Robert Jr. is currently recovering from a back injury concern. On Thursday, the Mets outfielder shared an important update on his injury recovery before the team’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Recent updates have suggested Robert may not be especially close to returning, so his comments on Thursday are especially crucial.
“We’re continuing the plan of the trainers, continue to try to strengthen the back there,” Robert said via interpreter, per SNY. “As of right now we’re just following that plan. But I don’t feel any real pain.”
Robert has always displayed intriguing potential. However, he has dealt with injury concerns throughout his career. He played with the Chicago White Sox from 2020-2025, but he only appeared in more than 110 games once during that span. The season he accomplished the feat was in 2023, and Robert earned his first and only (so far) All-Star selection of his career.
Through 24 games played so far during the 2026 campaign, Robert is hitting .224/.327/.329 across 98 plate appearances. He has two home runs, three doubles and two stolen bases as well.
The Mets have endured an overall underwhelming season. They are just 29-38 heading into Thursday’s matchup against the Cardinals. New York is in last place in the National League East standings as well.
