Rangers lose impactful reliever to IL due to back injury concern

The Texas Rangers announced a roster move before their game against the Kansas City Royals on Thursday. Texas is placing left-handed relief pitcher Jalen Beeks on the 15-day injured list due to low back spasms. Right-handed pitcher Luis Curvelo was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

The Rangers have a respectable amount of pitching depth. Nevertheless, losing Beeks to the injured list is far from ideal. The 32-year-old has had a fairly strong season, pitching to a 3.81 ERA across 29 outings out of the Rangers bullpen. He turned in a 3.77 ERA across 62 appearances with the Arizona Diamondbacks last year.

While Beeks is not a star, he is a reliable left-handed reliever who is more than capable of making a significant impact out of the bullpen. Updates will continue to be monitored and provided on Jalen Beeks’ injury status as they are made available.

The Rangers are set to enter their contest on Thursday afternoon against the Kansas City Royals with a 33-34 overall record. Texas is two games behind the Seattle Mariners for first place in the American League West standings. The Rangers’ record obviously does not jump off the page, but the ball club is certainly in the AL West conversation as they currently sit in second place overall.

The Rangers will need to find a way to overcome their injury concerns. Their postseason outlook remains intriguing at the moment, though.

First pitch for the Rangers and Royals game on Thursday afternoon is scheduled for 2:10 PM EST in Kansas City.
