The Boston Red Sox own one of the worst records in MLB (27-39) so far in the 2026 season. It’s been an abysmal journey, and the firing of Alex Cora as manager didn’t seem to do much of anything to improve the situation. On Thursday, franchise CEO Sam Kennedy bashed the team for its poor performances this year.
During a guest appearance on “The Greg Hill Show,” Kennedy, who has been with the Red Sox since 2017, flat-out called this year’s campaign “unacceptable.” Overall, the 52-year-old CEO is unhappy with the situation and is surprised by the results in 2026 after the club reached the postseason last year as the No. 5 seed in the American League.
“I think it’s important here at the outset to acknowledge how embarrassing, unacceptable, maddening, frustrating, whatever words you want to use, the past two and a half months have been,” said Kennedy about the Red Sox’s woes. “There’s no way to sugarcoat it. It’s been awful, especially when you consider the stated goal of building upon what happened last season [when Boston made the playoffs].”

The 2026 season has been a rough go for the Red Sox, to say the least. There was optimism to begin the campaign, as the club was hopeful to improve upon a 2025 campaign that ended with a playoff appearance. There was hype around ace Garrett Crochet and the two former top prospects, Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer.
But injuries have plagued the roster, and the healthy players haven’t been able to produce much of anything. The bats are ice cold, as the offense is one of the main reasons this team can’t get anything going.
Offensively, the Red Sox are ranked dead last in home runs (52) while the batting average is in the middle of the pack (.243) and the OBP is the sixth-worst in MLB (.312). Boston also hasn’t won a series since May 29-May 31, when they beat the Cleveland Guardians 2-1 in a three-game series.
