Nelly Korda has finally won the U.S. Women’s Open, conquering Riviera Country Club on Sunday for her fourth major championship. Korda was locked in a battle with Gabby Lopez, Charley Hull, and In Gee Chun all day, until the 17th hole. That’s where Korda poured in a birdie putt to get to 8-under par. She made a par on 18 to win, but not without her heart jumping into her throat.

Korda has now won the first two major championships of the LPGA season after taking home her second Chevron Championship. Add these two wins to her 2021 Women’s PGA Championship, and she has four titles before turning 28.
Those major championships, along with her incredible LPGA Tour career, put Korda in rare air in the history of the game. She is only the third World No. 1 to win the US Women’s Open, joining Annika Sorenstam and Inbee Park. Korda is the youngest American to win four majors since Mickey Wright in 1960. And she is the first American to reach four career majors since 2004, all per Justin Ray.
Korda struggled in the first round of the US Women’s Open, having to change shoes early in her Thursday round due to discomfort from custom LeBron’s. She was two-over after that first round, but put her foot to the gas after that. Korda fired 67 on both Friday and Saturday, following it up with a 69 to win on Sunday.
Charley Hull set a US Women’s Open weekend scoring record with 65 on Saturday and a 67 on Sunday. According to Ray, her five major championship runners-up are the second-most without a win, behind only Ayako Okamoto.
A future star emerged at the US Open, as Kiara Romero won the low amateur title at 3-under par. She finished T6 at 20 years old and is the top-ranked amateur in the world.
