Ernie Clement drops Blue Jays truth bomb that should scare American League

The Toronto Blue Jays feature a healing roster that will soon welcome back Max Scherzer. But the pitcher’s pending return isn’t the only fuel for optimism. Ernie Clement dropped a truth bomb Sunday after beating the Baltimore Orioles that will catch the attention of the American League.

The defending AL champs erased a 4-0 deficit to win 6-4. Clement delivered this message via Mitch Bannon of The Athletic after the comeback win.

“Once we kind of figure out who we are as a team, firmly figure out our team identity, I think this team has a chance to be better than last year,” Clement said.

Toronto’s record stands at under .500 with its 32-34 mark. But Clement believes there’s plenty of time for the AL champs to turn their season around.

Clement finished with one hit on four at-bat attempts. Plus scored one run during the bottom of the sixth scoring surge. Clement started that inning by landing at first on a fielding error at short stop. Kazuma Okamoto drove Clement home by pounding single off a 91 miles per hour cutter. Okamoto’s RBI sliced the Orioles lead to 4-3.

Andres Gimenez then tied things up by doubling to right field that lured Okamoto to home plate. Nathan Lukes broke the tie after reaching on an infield single that brought Gimenez home for the fifth run of that inning. Brandon Valenzuela blasted a solo home run to right field that sailed 388 feet into the air for the Blue Jays’ final run.

Toronto has now won three of its last four games.
