Padres place Miguel Andujar on IL before Orioles game

Ahead of Saturday’s matchup with the Baltimore Orioles, the San Diego Padres placed Miguel Andujar on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. The move was made retroactive to June 11 after Andujar had been dealing with hamstring discomfort since last Sunday.

Andujar initially suffered the injury during a loss to the New York Mets. Although he avoided an immediate trip to the injured list and was available in a limited role off the bench, the 31-year-old managed only two plate appearances during the week before the club ultimately sidelined him. With the transaction retroactive to Thursday, he will be ineligible to return before June 21.

To fill the vacancy on the active roster, the Padres selected outfielder Nick Solak from Triple-A El Paso. The promotion also restored the San Diego’s 40-man roster to full capacity.

Andujar’s injury comes during a difficult season that has fallen short of his impressive 2025 campaign. Last year, he finished with a .318/.352/.470 slash line with a 125 wRC+ across 470 plate appearances between the Athletics and Cincinnati Reds. Much of that success came against left-handed pitching, against whom he recorded a .389/.409/.578 line and a 171 wRC+.

After signing a one-year contract worth $4.5 million in free agency, Andujar opened the 2026 season in fine form, producing a .925 OPS in April. However, his performance declined drastically in the following weeks. Through 198 plate appearances this season, he owns a .254/.288/.418 batting line with five home runs and a 96 wRC+. Interestingly, he has fared better against right-handed pitching (104 wRC+) than left-handers (76 wRC+) this season, a complete flip from last year’s splits.

The Padres will look to Solak for depth. The 31-year-old veteran has appeared in parts of seven major league seasons, compiling a .250/.325/.369 line with 21 home runs and a 91 wRC+ over 985 career plate appearances. At Triple-A El Paso this year, Solak excelled with a .340/.419/.522 slash line, nine home runs, five stolen bases, and offensive production that ranked 31 percent above league average across 237 plate appearances.
