Fans were worried when seeing Atlanta Braves star Spencer Strider exit Friday’s game against the New York Mets with arm soreness, and now that the team has placed him on the injured list (IL), the concern is on the timeline for the pitcher. With the Braves making the injury move in putting Strider on the IL, manager Walt Weiss announced a change in the rotation.
According to Chad Bishop, Weiss would not have any more updates when it comes to Strider, as he’s dealing with right elbow inflammation, but would say that JR Ritchie “will move back in the rotation.”
“Braves manager Walt Weiss did not have any further updates on Spencer Strider than what has already been given,” Bishop wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Weiss said JR Ritchie will move back into the rotation with Strider on the IL. ‘We’ll just insert Richie into that spot.'”
So far this season, Ritchie has pitched a 3.82 ERA to go along with 26 strikeouts and a 1-1 record in six appearances.

As for Strider, his season continues to be disappointing, especially now with the stint on the IL, as he has recorded a 5.31 ERA with 46 strikeouts and a 4-2 record in eight games. Weiss and Ritchie would speak about Strider and how the injury is a buzzkill.
“He’s been through a lot … in the past few years trying to work his way back,” Weiss said, via MLB.com. “And we’ve seen some glimpses of it. He’s done a nice job for us this year, and there was a lot of hope. We saw him in the outing he had in L.A., [he] was just lights out. He looked just like old Spencer.”
“It’s terrible because Spencer’s a really great guy, a great teammate,” Ritchie said. “He’s been a great mentor to me. I hate to see him go down. It’s just really unfortunate, he’s a really big part of this team and this organization.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen when Strider returns from the injured list for the Braves and if he gets back to an elite level.
