Guardians’ Chase DeLauter exits with injury immediately after recording hit vs. Tarik Skubal

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Chase DeLauter exited Saturday’s game against the Detroit Tigers after suffering a right ribcage bruise, per the Guardians’ broadcast. DeLauter seemingly suffered the injury while trying to catch a fly ball and crashing into the outfield fall in the top of the first inning. The outfielder remained in the game in the bottom of the first and took his at-bat against Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, who is making his return from injury on Saturday. DeLauter recorded a base hit against the Tigers star, but was clearly in pain and was ultimately removed from the contest.

DeLauter has made a significant impact this season. The 24-year-old is hitting .263/.337/.408 across 66 games played so far in 2026. He has seven home runs and has been hitting near the top of the lineup for Cleveland. On Saturday, DeLauter hit third.

Offense has been a struggle overall for the Guardians. The ball club is hoping to find more overall consistency. Jose Ramirez is a superstar but he has not played up to his expectations this season. Travis Bazzana is a top prospect with a bright future. Brayan Rocchio has made a crucial impact.

However, losing DeLauter for a significant amount of time would be far from ideal. Cleveland is certainly hopeful he will be able to avoid a long injury absence.

Updates will continue to be monitored and provided on Chase DeLauter’s injury status as they are made available. For now, the Guardians will attempt to defeat Tarik Skubal and the Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
