Draymond Green envisions dramatic recast of Inside the NBA. Is KD the new Shaq?

Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors has joined the Inside the NBA crew during the playoffs and his impact has been notable. The program is in its first year on ESPN after a long run as a staple for TNT’s coverage of the NBA and the addition of Green is one of the reasons the program has a somewhat unusual feel.

It’s not that host Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley don’t like or appreciate Green, but it is just different than what the panelists and NBA viewers are used to seeing.

The likelihood is that Inside the NBA will go through changes in the future because the four primary members have been together for so many years. Green was discussing the makeup of the panel in the future on his podcast, and he believes Kevin Durant would likely have a spot on the show and he could eventually take the place of O’Neal.

Green said that both Durant and O’Neal see the game differently than most observers because of their size. O’Neal is a huge man at 7-1 who used to overpower most opponents, so he believes the direct approach is best when competing. Green said that Durant has an unusual perspective because of his remarkable skill as a shooter for such a tall man. While Green called the Slim Reaper a 7-footer, he is actually 6-11.

Green, it would seem, could have a permanent position on the panel once the regulars decided to hang up their microphones. However, the 14-year veteran has not retired from the Warriors yet and may continue to compete in the NBA in 2026-27.
