The New York Knicks enter one of the more highly-anticipated evenings for the city since 1973. Yet the San Antonio Spurs attempted to disrupt a Big Apple takeover with Game 5 ticket restrictions. This prompted New York governor Kathy Hochul to intervene before the NBA Finals showdown.
Hochul took to the social media website X, formerly Twitter, to make this announcement.
“After hearing concerns from Knicks fans, my team got in touch with Ticketmaster, and I’m pleased to confirm that no fan who purchased a ticket through the platform will have their ticket canceled,” Hochul shared. ”New Yorkers will have a fair shot to show up and show out. Knicks in five!”
Hochul added how “thousands of New Yorkers” bought tickets plus booked flights to see this contest inside Frost Bank Center.
“Ticketmaster and the Spurs should reverse this decision and let the fans who bought those seats keep them. Until then, on behalf of Knicks fans everywhere, I’m calling foul,” Hochul posted before she reached out to Ticketmaster.
So that means the Spurs arena will have some orange and blue in the stands. Once again the Knicks can end a long-awaited title dry spell.
The iconic franchise hasn’t won an NBA title since Willis Reed led the Knicks to the mountain top of the league. New York won that championship series against the Los Angeles Lakers in five games. The Knicks earn a chance to close this series out 4-1 with one more win.
But Hochul isn’t the only New York politician delivering a message ahead of the game. City mayor Zohran Mamdani urged Knick fans to celebrate responsibly should the team close the series out Saturday night.
