With the San Antonio Spurs preparing for Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks on Saturday night, the one positive to hold out hope for is that the game is in San Antonio. As the Spurs take on the Knicks in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, the homecourt advantage might not be exactly a positive.
According to Stefan Bondy of The New York Post, he posted on X, formerly Twitter, that he overheard a security guard at the Frost Bank Center say that they had a meeting and are anticipating a crowd that is like a “home game” for the Knicks.
“They told us in our meeting it’s basically going to be a New York Knicks home game,” the security guard said, via Bondy.
The Spurs need to have the belief that they can come back from 3-1
The last thing the Spurs need is a feeling reminiscent of Game 4, where the team blew a 29-point lead and allowed New York to have the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history. Now down 3-1 in the NBA Finals, San Antonio needs to have the belief they can win three straight, which star Victor Wembanyama expresses.
“The first thing that should always be the case is believing. Belief. But also the fact that we need to take it one game at a time. And, uh, we need to win the next 48 minutes. That’s our job right now. That’s all that matters. After this whole season, a- all 82 games, all 20-plus games of playoffs, all that matters is the next 48 minutes. Not even thinking about the fact that we have to win three. We know we can do that. We have to win the next 48.”
“All that matters is the next 48 minutes.”

If the Spurs want some motivation, two teams in the 2026 NBA Playoffs have come down from a 3-1 series deficit to win the round, such as the Detroit Pistons beating the Orlando Magic and the Philadelphia 76ers taking down the Boston Celtics.
However, only one team has done it in the NBA Finals, and it was in 2016 when the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Golden State Warriors.
