It wasn’t a good campaign for the St. Louis Blues, who finished on the outside looking in at the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second time in three seasons. They also made the painful decision to part ways with captain Brayden Schenn, who was traded to the New York Islanders.
Additionally, they traded defenseman Justin Faulk to the Detroit Red Wings. While goaltender Jordan Binnington has been heavily involved in trade rumors, he remained in place. But now, speculation is continuing to build regarding the future of Jordan Kyrou with the club. Could he soon be on the move to reunite with Schenn in the Metropolitan Division?
According to Blues beat writer Jeremy Rutherford, the Islanders are a team that he believes Kyrou would waive his no-trade clause for.
“I believe the New York Islanders are a team that he would OK a deal to,” Rutherford wrote via The Athletic. “But are they interested?”
Kyrou inked an eight-year, $65 million contract to remain with the Blues through the 2030-31 NHL season, and he’s being paid an annual salary of $8.125 million. The Islanders may ask the Blues to retain a portion of that amount if they ultimately pull off another trade with one another, this time involving Kyrou.
Kyrou was selected by the Blues in the second round (35th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft, and would make his debut in the 2018-19 season, appearing in 16 regular season games.
So far in his NHL career, Kyrou has scored 168 goals with 210 assists in 488 regular season games, while also contributing 11 goals and two assists in 28 career playoff games.
