The Boston Red Sox are trying to turn things around as the season nears the 70-game mark. They are in last place in the American League East, and they trail the first-place New York Yankees by a whopping 12.5 games. They have been brutal at Fenway Park this season, as they began a three-game series against the Texas Rangers with a 10-21 record at the home of the Green Monster.
The Red Sox have won the first two games of the series, guaranteeing they will be successful against an opponent at home for just the second time this season. Ceddanne Rafaela broke a 2-2 tie with a tw0-run single in the seventh inning and Jarren Duran hammered a clinching two-run home run in the eighth inning. The streaky Duran’s blast was his 11th home run of the season.
However, he has been in a nasty slump in June. Going into that eighth-inning at bat, Duran was hitting .146 (6-for-41) with 18 strikeouts in the month. He had just one extra-base hit and no bases on balls in June.
Duran was extremely frustrated with his performance, and he expressed how upset he was after the game. “Absolutely terrible,” Duran said, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. “I’m going to be honest with you, I’ve felt terrible. Playing like s*** at the plate. But just got to figure it the f*** out, you know?”
Duran struggled badly through the first month-plus of the season, but he appeared to turn things around in May. He hit nine home runs in May while hitting .261 with an .879 OPS. Duran and the Red Sox are hoping that the two wins over the Rangers will start to turn their season in a positive direction.
