Just like everyone else, Bill Simmons of The Ringer has his eyes glued on what’s unfolding in Game 5 of the NBA Finals between Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs against the New York Knicks on Saturday at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
And just like everyone who is watching the contest, Simmons also had something to say about the seemingly missed flagrant foul call on Wembanyama when the Spurs star big man tried to challenge Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson’s jumper during a play in the third quarter.
“Absolutely horrific missed call on Wemby. Wowwwwwwwwwwwww. Cannot believe that!” Simmons shared via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.
Wembanyama appeared to intrude on Brunson’s landing spot, with the Knicks star dropping to the floor before turning to the refs to express his frustration over the non-call. Fortunately for Brunson and the Knicks, he did not suffer an injury during that play, with New York looking to finish the series and have that championship parade in New York.
Wembanyama is close to an automatic suspension, as he is only a flagrant foul away from it. In any case, his real focus is on leading San Antonio in a must-win contest in front of their home crowd, with New York needing just a win to close out the series.
Simmons would have been enjoying the NBA Finals more (apart from having likely stronger opinions) if it were the Boston Celtics playing the Spurs. But the Celtics got upset in the first round by the Philadelphia 76ers, who got swept in the next round by the Knicks.
