Landry Shamet heads to Knicks locker room with apparent Game 5 injury

The New York Knicks cranked up the heat during the fourth quarter in Game 5. Even withstanding a physical San Antonio Spurs team now in desperation mode. But NYK witnessed a scare from key reserve Landry Shamet.

The rising beloved member of the Knicks charged to the hoop and attempted a contested fourth quarter layup. Shamet managed to get the ball inside the hoop. However, he planted his foot in awkward fashion and began limping.

The Knicks eventually fouled during the subsequent defensive sequence, all to pause the action to benefit Shamet. He eventually walked into the Knicks locker room for evaluation on what appeared to be an ankle injury.

Shamet hasn’t returned while the Knicks trailed 83-79 with 5:30 left. He provided an immediate long range spark prior to the injury. Including hitting this 3-pointer to cut the lead to six.

Shamet scored five points before the injury occurred. He pulled off the mark in 13 minutes of play. He also grabbed one rebound on the offensive side.

Jalen Brunson took over in Shamet’s absence. He dropped 40 points with 3:40 left in the fourth quarter. Brunson even drew a four behind the arc to shoot three from the white stripe. Brunson nailed all three free throws to put New York up 86-85 with 3:30 and counting in the fourth quarter.

Shamet eventually returned to the floor, but stood on the sidelines as Brunson took his free throw attempts. He later watched OG Anunoby attempt a slam dunk over Victor Wembanyama, but drew the goal tend to place New York up 88-85.
