It’s been a long time coming for Mike Breen as he finally got to call his New York Knicks team winning the NBA championship on the ABC broadcast in the 2026 NBA Finals after they beat the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 on Saturday night.
Breen has been dedicated to his coverage of the Knicks since 1991. He started as their radio play-by-play guy before getting the promotion to taking part on the television broadcasts. He embraced the opportunity and never looked back, building his resume as one of the best commentators in all of basketball.
Breen finally got to see New York return to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999, early into his time covering the franchise. This time around, he finally got to see them reach the mountaintop. Breen was only 12 years old when New York last won the title, making the accomplishment highly significant to what he stated on the call after the final buzzer of Game 5.
“Knicks fans, this is not a dream!” Breen exclaimed.

How Knicks played against Spurs
Mike Breen will certainly be proud to see his Knicks squad finally end their decades-long drought of no championships. 53 years have passed, and the drought is no more at last.
New York started out slow as the team had in past games this series. But once again, their resilience shined in the spotlight. They slowly but surely pulled off the 18-point comeback to win their third title in franchise history.
Four players scored in double-digits for New York in the win. Jalen Brunson was remarkable in the closeout game, finishing with 45 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Mikal Bridges came next with 14 points and four assists, Josh Hart had 13 points and 11 rebounds, while OG Anunoby provided 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Knicks will look forward to defending their title for next season. With Jalen Brunson and the supporting cast back, they will certainly be a threat as a potential repeat champion.
