For the first time in 53 years, the New York Knicks are NBA Champions!
That’s right, for the first time since Richard Nixon was president, television sets had tubes in them, and Subway was known for trains, not sandwiches, New York can hang a banner in the most famous arena in the world, and James Dolan can add a ring to his personal trophy case.
And based on his comments after the game, it sure sounds like the Knicks owner doesn’t want to wait 53 more years to win another one, as he had a simple but powerful message for fans after Game 5 that will set the Big Apple – even more – on fire.
“Hey, New York!” Dolan declared. “I’m sorry it took so long, but here we are, and hopefully it won’t take that long again.”

Goodness gracious, not too shabby expectations for a team that was having issues with the Atlanta Hawks just one month earlier.
Initially, taking over ownership of the Knicks in the late 90s, Dolan has watched his teams both come close to the NBA Finals and come close to having the first overall pick due to their dismal records, but 2026 marked his first ring with the organization and the first any of his fans have seen if they were born in the last 50 years. While this current team will be expensive to keep together and all 15 players won’t return this October for the title defense, NBA Championships are now the standard in New York once more, which hasn’t been the case since Dolan was a teenager.
