With the Chicago Cubs looking to be players in the trade market once the deadline rolls around, one player who has been rumored to be involved in rumors is Seiya Suzuki. As rumors surround the Cubs and Suzuki, his trade value could go even lower with the latest injury being sustained on Saturday.
In Chicago’s 6-1 win over the San Francisco Giants, Suzuki exited the game in the bottom of the fourth inning after attempting to catch a tough fly ball; he appeared to overstrain his knee. Speaking after the game through an interpreter, he said that he felt his knee “kind of moved” during the run for the ball.
“Once I realized I couldn’t get the ball, I stopped,” Suzuki said, via ESPN. “I felt like my knee kind of moved.”
“I’m wishing it’s not a big deal,” Suzuki continued. “Wake up tomorrow and see how it feels.”

Seiya Suzuki could be traded from the Cubs
There’s no denying that many have been underwhelmed with Suzuki’s season so far with the Cubs, as he currently has a .255 batting average to go along with 10 home runs and 28 RBIs. MLB insider Ken Rosenthal would speak on how Chicago should consider trading Suzuki, maybe for a starting pitcher.
“Quality right-handed bats will have immense value at the trade deadline. And the Chicago Cubs, a team arguably in need of a shakeup, feature a righty hitter other teams might covet: Right fielder Seiya Suzuki,” Rosenthal wrote in The Athletic.
“Perhaps Suzuki could bring back a starting pitcher who also is a potential free agent, helping the club fill a more dire need. If the Cubs keep Suzuki and he departs as a free agent, they would receive only a draft pick as compensation, assuming they made him a qualifying offer. A trade could yield considerably more value, particularly if the Cubs included cash to pay down part of Suzuki’s remaining salary, which at the deadline will be less than $6 million,” Rosenthal continued.
At any rate, it remains to be seen how Suzuki’s injury pans out and if the Cubs end up trading the 31-year-old.
