The Philadelphia Phillies are expected to explore the outfield market ahead of the MLB trade deadline following an injury to right fielder Adolis García.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Phillies are “desperately looking to acquire an outfielder” after García suffered a torn latissimus dorsi muscle, an injury that could keep him out for the remainder of the season. Two names reportedly on Philadelphia’s radar are Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell and Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki.
Both players have provided power production in 2026. Adell is batting .249 with 10 home runs, 39 RBIs and a .685 OPS in 277 at-bats for the Angels. Suzuki is hitting .255 with 10 home runs, 28 RBIs and a .772 OPS in 208 at-bats for the Cubs.
García exited Philadelphia’s series finale in Toronto June 10 and, two days later, was placed on the 60-day injured list with a torn right latissimus dorsi muscle.
“I mean, it sounds like that’s a good possibility,” interim manager Don Mattingly said Friday when asked whether the injury could be season-ending, as reported by Paul Casella of MLB News. “I know they’re waiting on one final opinion, but it obviously is not good. Put him on the (60-day IL) right away. Yeah, it doesn’t look good.”
Suzuki’s own health status recently became a concern. During Saturday’s game against the San Francisco Giants, Suzuki exited after experiencing right knee discomfort while attempting to field a line drive.
“The reports kind of after he came out were positive,” Cubs manager Craig Counsell said, per Jordan Bastian of MLB News. “But the most important thing is how is he going to feel tomorrow. I don’t have postgame news on him. It’s how he feels tomorrow.”
Earlier this season, Suzuki also missed time after suffering a minor posterior cruciate ligament sprain while playing for Team Japan in the World Baseball Classic.
