With the Los Angeles Dodgers taking on the Chicago White Sox throughout the weekend, Sunday’s 7-1 win featured a great outing from pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who was on his way to a perfect game bid. However, an error from Dodgers star Mookie Betts would end the bid in the bottom of the eighth inning, as he described what happened.
As there were two outs left in the eighth inning and Yamamoto still on the mound, he was about to get out of the inning on a routine ground ball to Betts, but couldn’t corral the ball in, leading to the error. Betts is “not making any excuses,” emphasizing how he should’ve made the play.
“Just a routine ground ball that I missed, I’m not making any excuses,” Betts said. “Obviously, with the situation going on, it was great, but I think us winning is the most important thing, that’s all we care about,” Betts said, via SportsNet LA.
“Very aware, I mean, knew everything going on, didn’t have any extra pressure, like I said, I’m not making any excuses. I should have made the play,” Betts continued. “I mean, I did everything I was supposed to do, just didn’t catch the ball,” Betts said.
"Anytime you can get the best player in the world (Shohei) back in your lineup, it's definitely gonna help and he showed that immediately."

Mookie Betts on Dodgers’ Yoshinobu Yamamoto and his outing
After Betts’ error, Yamamoto would close out the eighth inning unscathed, getting back out there in the ninth inning to get a no-hitter, but he would let go of a solo home run by Tristan Peters. That was the only damage done as Yamamoto still struck out seven batters, only allowing one hit in 109 pitches, which ended up being the home run.
Betts would speak about Yamamoto’s performance, saying how he is “glad he’s on our team.”
“He was in the zone, he kept it out of the middle, kept him off balance. That’s just Yoshi being Yoshi,” Betts said.
Despite the frustration of Yamamoto not getting a perfect game, the team would still leave Sunday with a win, as the team looks to end the series with a bang in Sunday afternoon’s contest against the White Sox.
