Knicks’ OG Anunoby, who doesn’t drink, suffers hilarious tequila fail after NBA title

The New York Knicks are the 2026 NBA champions, and there’s no question that they celebrated as such after defeating the San Antonio Spurs. The excitement could be seen from when the buzzer sounded to when they got to the locker room and popped bottles of champagne.

One moment that wasn’t caught on video, but Fred Katz of The Athletic wrote about, was OG Anunoby drinking tequila. The reason this is a moment is that Anunoby doesn’t drink. That all changed after the Knicks won.

Anunoby saw his teammates indulging in some drinks and decided to join in on the fun.

“With that bottle of tequila blanco in front of him, Anunoby exuded the same energy,” Katz wrote. “He grabbed the neck of it, lifted it to his mouth, tilted his head back and took a swig, as if he had discovered water after weeks stranded in the desert. But this was not water, and his body reacted as such. He started to cough. The tequila poured down his face. He screamed. As he yelped from the burning in his chest, he laughed, uncontrollably.”

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Anunoby take some more swigs in the coming days, because the Knicks might be celebrating for the next week, and maybe even longer.

Anunoby deserves this moment, and he has been seen as one of the saviors of the team after his heroics in Game 4, where he tipped in the ball that gave the Knicks the win. He has already been given honors this past week, as Manhattan Borough President Brady Hoylman-Sigal declared that June 11, 2026, “OG Anunoby Appreciation Day.”

After that, the New York Mets invited him to throw out the first pitch for the game, and he’ll probably get invited to do a lot for the rest of the offseason.
