Yankees’ Aaron Boone gives murky Giancarlo Stanton injury update after calf flare-up

The New York Yankees have been playing some improved baseball of late, winners of five out of their last six games ahead of Sunday’s series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees have been trying to hold down the fort in the injury absence of Aaron Judge, who has been out of the lineup for multiple weeks due to a ribcage injury, and is set to miss more.

Meanwhile, veteran Giancarlo Stanton has missed the majority of this season due to a calf injury, last having played on April 24, and recently, it was revealed that the star had revealed a setback in his recovery process.

Now, Yankees manager Aaron Boone has given the latest update on Stanton’s recovery.

“Giancarlo Stanton (calf) will have additional testing tomorrow, Aaron Boone said,” reported Bryan Hoch of the MLB on X, formerly Twitter.

“I don’t think so, but I don’t know that,” said Boone, when asked if Stanton was back to square one in his recovery process, per Hoch.

At the age of 36, it’s certainly understandable that the Yankees would want to have a cautious approach with Stanton moving forward. The designated hitter had been having a solid season for New York prior to the injury, but at this point, it doesn’t appear that he is particularly close to a return to the lineup.

Meanwhile, the Yankees have been trying to exact some revenge on the Blue Jays this weekend after losing to them in the ALDS last season, and thus far, the teams have split the first two games of their series in Toronto.

Game 3 of the series is set for Sunday at 1:30 pm ET.
