If there’s one person on the New York Knicks’ roster that stands to gain in a big way this offseason, it’s backup big man Mitchell Robinson with his pending free agency. Robinson played a major role, especially in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, swooping in to grab a huge offensive rebound over San Antonio Spurs’ star Victor Wembanyama, that helped seal the title win.

Following the game, the former first round pick spoke about what winning the championship means to him, via SNY Knicks.
“Dreams come true. I’ve been here when we won 17 games and then we won 60 games, and to finally be able to get it done in 2026, after all of the journey that I’ve been on with the team and stuff like that, it has just been amazing,” Robinson said. “This is an amazing feeling. I’m pretty sure every basketball player wants to feel like this and we got it.”
Mitchell Robinson’s first bout with NBA free agency came after the 2021-22 season when he re-signed with the Knicks on a four-year contract worth around $60 million. He is certainly in line to receive an increase from that this offseason.
During the Knicks’ run to the NBA championship, Robinson averaged 4.8 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 67.3 percent from the field. Stats do not tell the entire story, however, as Knicks head coach Mike Brown credited Robinson’s defense against Wembanyama as being a crucial aspect of this series.
Robinson has spent his entire eight-year career with the Knicks, but he is sure to draw heavy interest from multiple teams in free agency.
