The New York Knicks won their first NBA title in 53 years on Saturday night, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. The Knicks now will look ahead to an offseason full of celebration and success after climbing the NBA mountaintop for the 2025-26 season.
Among those showering the Knicks in praise is New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, who hasn’t experienced as much success this season as his crosstown friends.
“I’ve got to see congrats to coach Mike Brown and the entire Knicks organization. Coaches, front office, players. That was fun. What an unbelievable season, and way to go,” said Mendoza, per SNY on X, formerly Twitter.
The Mets, on the other hand, have been a major disappointment, currently sitting at 31-39 on the 2026 MLB season, but New Yorkers have their full attention on the Knicks at the present moment as they gear up for the championship parade later this week.
Throughout this playoff run, the Knicks finally started to click like the team the front office thought it was building when it traded five first round picks for Mikal Bridges and also gave up significant assets to bring in OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns.
However, the star of the show on Saturday was Jalen Brunson, who solidified his Finals MVP win with a 45-point masterpiece on a night when not many of his teammates could get it going offensively.
The Knicks will likely bring back essentially the same core of players heading into next season, although they could make some tweaks along the margins over the summer.
In any case, the Knicks will celebrate their championship with a parade through the streets of Manhattan on Thursday.
