The New York Mets have endured a difficult season to say the least. Things got even worse on Monday, as New York is reportedly placing starting pitcher Christian Scott on the injured list, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post. Scott’s specific injury has yet to be revealed.
“Mets are placing Christian Scott on the IL, a source confirms. @WillSammon first reported, adding that the injury is believed to be minor,” Puma reported.
While the team has unquestionably underperformed overall, the Mets have battled injury trouble as well. Losing Scott is certainly far from ideal.
The 27-year-old has performed well across nine starts this season. He has pitched to a 3.10 ERA in his 40.2 innings of work on the mound up to this point in the season. Scott has added 47 strikeouts during that span as well.
The last thing New York needed was for a pitcher who is performing well to land on the injured list, but that is exactly what is happening with Scott. Updates will continue to be monitored and provided on Christian Scott’s injury status as they are made available.
The Mets were able to earn a 2-1 series win against the best team in baseball, the Atlanta Braves, this past weekend. However, New York is still just 32-39 and in last place in the National League East standings. They remain 14 games behind the Braves for first place in the division.
Nevertheless, the ball club has momentum right now. They will look to carry that momentum into their upcoming series against the Cincinnati Reds.
