Knicks’ Jalen Brunson says it’s time to take Mikal Bridges’ phone amid IG live marathon

The New York Knicks are just over 24 hours removed from winning their first NBA title in 53 years, knocking off the San Antonio Spurs in five hard-fought games to hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Jalen Brunson was awarded the NBA Finals MVP award for his strong end to the series, which featured a 45-point performance in the decisive Game 5.

Recently, Knicks wing Mikal Bridges, who also had a strong performance in the Finals for the most part, went on Instagram Live, potentially with a few beverages in his system, to share his NFSW praise of Brunson’s performance.

Now, Brunson himself has weighed in on the epic live stream.

“Somebody take Mikal’s phone,” wrote Brunson on X, formerly Twitter.

A statue could very well be coming for Brunson outside of Madison Square Garden at some point in the future after he led the Knicks to their first championship in over five decades. The Knicks’ signing of Brunson received a mostly lukewarm response from the rest of the league back in the summer of 2022, with many wondering if that alone would be enough to get New York into something resembling contention.

However, Brunson’s ascension, combined with savvy moves and signings from the front office over the last few years, ultimately culminated in New York putting together one of the smartest rosters in the NBA, one that got scorching hot at the right time in these playoffs and steamrolled their way to the title after falling down 2-1 in the first round.

The Knicks figure to bring back most of the same core and be right back in the mix to contend once again next year, but for now, the team is focused on celebrating its championship, which will continue with a parade on Thursday.
