Mets dealt another injury, this one to promising young pitcher

The New York Mets have been up and down over the last few weeks, recently having a successful weekend by winning two out of three against the divisional rival Atlanta Braves. Still, overall, it’s been a frustrating season for New York, which currently sits at 32-39 and in last place in the NL East.

Recently, the Mets’ situation went from bad to worse with some rough injury news regarding a promising young pitcher in their rotation.

“Mets are placing Christian Scott on the IL, a source confirms,” reported Mike Puma of the New York Post on X, formerly Twitter, citing a report from Will Sammon of The Athletic. Puma did add that “…the injury is believed to be minor.”

At this point, the injury specifics are not known. Scott last pitched on June 11 against the St. Louis Cardinals, giving up seven hits and four earned runs across 4.2 innings of work, and did not appear to suffer any visible ailments during that start.

Despite a rough performance in that game, Scott is still a promising young pitcher for the Mets, turning 27 years old on Monday and expected to be a part of the team’s long-term plans moving forward.

The Mets have had to deal with some tough luck on the injury front this year, with numerous key players, including star shortstop Francisco Lindor, missing extended periods of time. Thankfully, the Scott situation doesn’t appear to be as severe.

The Mets will next hit the field on Monday on the road against the Cincinnati Reds.
