Wizards rumors: AJ Dybantsa fully believes he’s going No. 1 after ‘perfect’ visit

With the 2026 NBA Draft kicking off on June 23, the question regarding who will go No. 1 overall to the Washington Wizards remains a mystery. While speculation grows that the pick could be AJ Dybantsa, the former BYU Cougars star sparked rumors on Monday after his official visit with Washington.

Reports indicate that Dybantsa, who is 19 years old, is convinced he will be the No. 1 pick to the Wizards on draft night, according to insider Brett Siegel. Dybantsa is considered the favorite to go No.1 overall, and that might just be the case after he claimed his visit with the organization was a perfect visit.

“Dybantsa recently worked out for the Wizards and met with the team’s leadership at the end of last week, and everything went ‘perfect,’ one source close to the situation told ClutchPoints,” reported Siegel.

“Between his athleticism on the wing and explosive scoring tendencies, Dybantsa would fit in perfectly with the Wizards. That is why he has been operating under the assumption that he will be the top pick, and the same source said Dybantsa left Washington DC fully of the belief that he would be the first pick in the draft on June 23,” Siegel said.

The possibility of the Wizards selecting Darryn Peterson instead, or even trading the No. 1 overall pick for a haul, is still technically in play. Peterson has opted to only talk with and visit Washington throughout the draft process. Although that may be the case, the latest buzz in the rumor mill certainly suggests that Washington is eyeing Dybantsa.

AJ Dybantsa played just one year at BYU before declaring for the NBA Draft. In 35 games played with the Cougars, the first-team All-American forward averaged 25.5 points (led the nation), 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 51.0% from the field and 33.1% from beyond the three-point line.
