Mavericks rumors: Rising Euro star gaining draft buzz with 30th pick

With the Dallas Mavericks preparing for the 2026 NBA Draft, which will be the first under Masai Ujiri, the team is looking to hit on the 30th overall pick, which, for some, could be a hard selection to make. As rumors surround the Mavericks about who the team will take, there is a constant between several publications on one rising European star.

The buzz has grown with guard Sergio De Larrea out of Spain, who has decided to stay in the process for the draft, which, as ESPN’s Jeremy Woo notes, could signal that many teams are interested in him from picks “25-to-35.” With his dimensions, shooting, and play-making skills, he’s seen as an exciting prospect at 20 years old.

“He measured officially at 6-foot-6 barefoot with a 6-9 wingspan, giving him massive dimensions for a ball handler, and is coming off a solid season in Spain, where he played a major part on a strong Valencia team and shot just under 40% from 3. Although de Larrea isn’t particularly quick, his playmaking feel and positional size give him clear potential to grow into a role,” Woo continued.

Another insider links Sergio De Larrea with the Mavericks

Besides ESPN, ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel also links De Larrea with Dallas at the 30th spot, explaining how much his “stock has spiked” and how he’d impact the Mavericks immediately.

“Lengthy guards who can be primary ball-handlers and shoot from the perimeter are highly valued in the NBA right now. That is why Sergio De Larrea’s stock has spiked, and he is now viewed as a first-round pick around the league,” Siegel wrote.

“De Larrea should immediately be able to enter the NBA and be a reliable 3-point shooting threat off the bench who checks off the boxes for becoming a multidimensional defender. His length and movement off the ball defensively are what make De Larrea capable of defending multiple positions,” Siegel continued.

At any rate, it remains to be seen who the Mavericks take at No. 30 and if it’ll be De Larrea, as fans will find out when the NBA Draft starts on Tuesday night, June 23.
