Warriors rumors: Insider links 5 prospects, including Michigan champions, to Dubs with 11th pick

The Golden State Warriors have some big decisions ahead of them this offseason, starting with the NBA Draft, which is slated to get underway next week. While some have speculated that the Warriors might look to trade their number 11 overall pick in search of a win-now player, recently, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel broke down some names Golden State could be interested in at that spot.

“…sources say all three Michigan guys (Aday Mara, Yaxel Lendeborg, and Morez Johnson Jr.) are in play for the Golden State Warriors with the 11th pick, as are (Nate) Ament and Brayden Burries,” reported Siegel. “The Warriors are in a position where they will wait and see what happens in the top 10, potentially being able to bounce around, gather more assets, and still get one of the players they want.”

The Michigan Wolverines indeed have several players who have piqued scouts’ interest heading into this draft, headlined by Mara, who impressed teams with his size and mobility at the recent NBA combine. While he likely won’t be there for the Warriors to select at number 11, the team could certainly benefit from a player like Lendeborg, whose age and experience make him a more polished prospect than most rookies. Siegel recently projected the Warriors to take Lendeborg with the number 11 pick in a mock draft.

Overall, even if the Warriors nail the upcoming draft, they still figure to be several pieces away from legit contention in the Western Conference, so it will be interesting to see what other moves the front office looks to make, as rumors swirl about a potential team-up between Stephen Curry and LeBron James in the Bay Area.

In any case, the NBA Draft is set to get underway on June 23.
