Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani has All-Star Game voting lead, obviously

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been up and down lately, losing two out of their three games against the Chicago White Sox over the weekend. Still, Los Angeles is in a good position overall, sitting with a record of 45-27, seven games above the San Diego Padres for the lead in the NL West.

Shohei Ohtani has been conducting business as usual this season, continuing to be a terror for opposing pitchers as a hitter while establishing himself as one of the game’s most lethal arms in his own right.

On Monday, the first batch of votes for the All-Star game came out, and as many expected, Ohtani had the lead.

“Shohei Ohtani leads ALL vote-getters with over 1.1M All-Star votes! The top vote-getter in each league through June 25 earns an automatic All-Star bid,” reported the MLB on X, formerly Twitter.

Ohtani has long been the most popular player in the sport both in the United States and internationally, particularly in his native Japan, where he is one of the country’s most prominent figures.

Ohtani has had a couple of rough pitching outings so far this year, but remains a reliable arm in the Dodgers’ rotation. That, combined with his otherworldly hitting prowess, has made him by far the most valuable player in the sport and the frontrunner to win yet another MVP award this season.

The Dodgers have been balancing his hitting and pitching appearances this year in order to preserve his health, which seems to have been paying dividends thus far.

In any case, the MLB All-Star game is slated to take place on July 14 at Citizens Bank Park, the home of the Philadelphia Phillies.
