Despite everything that Victor Wembanyama (“Wemby”) threw at Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks, they were able to win the franchise’s first championship in 53 years at the NBA Finals.
It feels like the Knicks’ captain is over his opponent. A video has surfaced of the team partying following their win, and he exclaims, “F**k Wemby!”

He was joined by others around him. If you watched the series, it isn’t hard to see why there might be some tension between them. From Wemby pushing him to the ground by the head to a missed flagrant foul in Game 5.
Knicks’ Jalen Brunson and Wemby went head-to-head in the NBA Finals
Brunson and Wembanyama are the respective captains of their teams. Ultimately, Brunson was able to come out on top, beating the Spurs in five games.
He also won Finals MVP for his performance. Brunson averaged 32.6 points per game in the series. His best was saved for last, as he scored 45 points and made over half of his shots in the series-clinching win.
This capped off his fourth season with the Knicks. Ever since joining them in 2022, he has led New York to the playoffs in every season. Now, he has brought the city its first NBA championship in 53 years.
During the 2025-26 regular season, Brunson was the 10th leading scorer in the NBA, averaging 26 points per game. He also averaged 3.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game.
The Knicks were on a tear throughout the postseason. After going down 2-1 to the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the playoffs, they won 13 games in a row. They swept the Philadelphia 76ers and the Cleveland Cavaliers on their way to the NBA Finals. And then they beat the Spurs in five games, only losing once in the series. Their lone loss was in Game 3 at Madison Square Garden.
