Magic Johnson takes Josh Hart victory lap after Knicks NBA Finals win

Magic Johnson had a very highly publicized tenure as president of the Los Angeles Lakers. From signing LeBron James to the widely criticized trade of Ivica Zubac and his eventual resignation, Johnson’s tenure in the Los Angeles front office captivated the sports world, but the five-time NBA champion had the opportunity to take a victory lap following the 2026 NBA Finals.

Former Lakers forward Josh Hart emerged as a key player for the Knicks during their playoff run, particularly in the five games of the NBA Finals. Johnson took to his social media to congratulate the Knicks, but especially showed love to Hart for their Laker tie.

“Congratulations to all of the @nyknicks players on winning an NBA World Championship! A special shoutout to the Knicks starting five: Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart 👏🏾 Btw, Josh is one of the players I drafted in the first round when I was President of the Lakers, and he’s one of my favorite players because of how he impacts winning without having to score a point!”

Josh Hart was selected by the Lakers in the 2017 NBA Draft with the 30th pick. Hart played for the Lakers for two seasons before being a part of the blockbuster trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers from the New Orleans Pelicans after Magic Johnson’s tenure. Hart played for the Pelicans for three seasons, then spent a season with the Portland Trail Blazers before landing with the New York Knicks in 2023.
