The New York Yankees have mostly been holding steady amid the multi-week absence of Aaron Judge due to an injury on the right side of his ribs, but the Yankees should know that their place atop the AL East is far from safe considering how competitive the division can be.
With it being the middle of June, the expectation is that trade rumors involving the Yankees are only going to heat up from here. Perhaps adding another power bat to help cover not just for Judge’s injury, but for Giancarlo Stanton’s as well, would do New York a world of good.
One potential trade target that Jon Heyman of the New York Post floated for the Yankees is Colorado Rockies slugger Hunter Goodman, who could become available with Colorado in the midst of another horrid campaign.
“I think this is a long shot, but I’ll throw it out there. Yankees look like they may need a catcher, at least a backup catcher. Right now, the Yankee catchers are hitting, get this, .173 as a group. They could look at catcher Hunter Goodman, who looks like an All-Star again,” Heyman said in an appearance on MLB Network.

Heyman noted that a potential pursuit of Goodman is very unlikely considering that he remains under team control for a Rockies team that badly needs the young talent amid a rebuild.
Goodman has two more years of team control left after the 2026 season, with both of them being arbitration years. While the Rockies are a ways away from contending, it would be a bit surprising to see the team trade away one of their few bright spots. On the season, Goodman is sporting an OPS of .865 to go with 20 home runs and 37 runs batted in. Last season, he recorded 32 dingers and 91 RBIs.
Austin Wells, the Yankees’ everyday catcher, is on the injured list due to cervical headaches and neck stiffness, and having some insurance at the position is going to be for New York’s best. But someone like Goodman may be far too ambitious of a shout for even this Yankees team.
