First, a suggestion for two statues in New York. Now, signature shoes?
It is good to be OG Anunoby these days. He helped the New York Knicks end their 53-year title drought, including a performance for the ages in Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs.
Anunoby will forever be remembered in the Big Apple for his key role in the Knicks’ third championship. For sure, he earned more fans, even from outside New York, after what he showed against the Spurs. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said New York should erect two statues of Anunoby to memorialize his heroics.
According to a report from Sole Retriever’s Nicholas Vlahos, the 28-year-old forward will get his first signature shoes from Skechers, although the details were not disclosed.
“OG embodies the spirit of not only Skechers Performance, but the entire philosophy of Skechers as the comfort technology company. It’s too early to share specific details, but we do have a signature shoe in the works,” said Skechers president Michael Greenberg.
Anunoby, who signed with Skechers in July, averaged 21.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks against the Spurs. He shot 52.5% from the field, including 50.0% from three-point range.
He etched his name in Knicks lore in Game 4 against the Spurs with his critical block on De’Aaron Fox and game-winning putback, which completed their historic 29-point comeback. He wore a Knicks-themed Skechers player exclusive (PE) in the contest.
Anunoby, who also won a ring with the Toronto Raptors in 2019, wore different PEs during the playoffs, as noted by Vlahos.
Anunoby will be the second player to get his signature shoes with Skechers after Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers.
