The Philadelphia Flyers are a young team that skated well during the 2025-26 NHL season. Philadelphia made the Stanley Cup Playoffs, defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins in a series before bowing to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Flyers now look to improve heading into next year.
The team’s governor says the Flyers have needs that must be addressed.
“There are areas where we need to improve,” governor Dan Hilferty said, per The Athletic. “People talk about a top-line center. People talk about a defenseman with a rocket. How can we make the power play better? Everybody sees it. We believe we have a real core, putting in some of the guys with the (AHL) Phantoms, a young group that can compete for years to come and be at the highest level for years to come. The Rubik’s Cube that we’re trying to put together is finding guys that can help us now … and will not impede the group of the young guys coming up.
“Danny and Jonesy and the team are not afraid to do something, but they’re also cognizant of the fact that they really have a stable they’ve built up that we want to help nurture and grow and let it come out organically, while at the same time plugging in pieces that can play at a high level, are great in the room, and can help us take that next step now. It’s not a guarantee, by any means. But we want to get better every year.”
Philadelphia finished the 2025-26 regular season with 98 points. The team finished +7 in goal differential.
Flyers governor is happy with direction of his team

Philadelphia had been in a postseason drought before this campaign. The Flyers went six years without making the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Hilferty says the future is bright for this club.
“Some people say it’s overused, but every job I’ve been in has been about building a culture where everybody lines up behind a vision, a strategy, and we go for it,” Hilferty said. “What has really been nice to see as we’ve gone along is that not only is it working with Danny and Keith, and everybody’s bought into that, but Tocc is right on board.”
“We’re beginning,” Hilferty added, “to see the fruits of our labor.”
Time will tell how Philadelphia addresses the roster this offseason.
