WWE diehard fan and Knicks star Jalen Brunson finally addresses Danhausen ‘curse’

Now that the playoffs are over and he’s a champion, New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson has addressed Danhausen’s “curse” and its impact on their run.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon alongside Mike Brown and Karl-Anthony Towns, Brunson acknowledged that he was originally “skeptical” about the “Very Nice, Very Evil” Superstar’s powers, but now, “you have to believe it.”

After going down 2-1 to the Atlanta Hawks, Danhausen “uncursed” the Knicks. They won 13 games in a row, sweeping playoff opponents, before the streak was snapped in the NBA Finals. Luckily, they still won the series.

Off the court, one of Brunson’s biggest passions is WWE. In June 2024, he attended an episode of Friday Night SmackDown, which was held at the Knicks’ home arena, Madison Square Garden.

He had a face-to-face with Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton. They didn’t know it, but that’d be a preview of the Eastern Conference Finals in 2025, which the Pacers won.

Ultimately, Brunson got the last laugh. Haliburton and the Pacers lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in seven games in the NBA Finals, and the star guard would miss the entire 2025-26 season with a torn Achilles suffered in Game 7.

Brunson led the Knicks to a championship in his fourth year with the team. This marked the franchise’s first championship since 1973. It has been a long time coming, and the Knicks are back at the top of the mountain.

His best performance came in Game 5, the series-clinching contest. He scored 45 points, the most by any player on the court, and made more than half of his shots. Throughout the series, he averaged 32.6 points per game.

The Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs, led by Victor Wembanyama, in five games to win the franchise’s first championship in 53 years. They won the first two games, which were played in front of hostile road crowds, before the series came to New York. After losing Game 3, the Knicks came back from being down by 29 points in Game 4.
