The Los Angeles Dodgers look to win their third consecutive World Series title this year. L.A. is off to a strong start, leading the National League West close to the season’s half-way point. The team is grappling with injuries though, including to outfielder Teoscar Hernandez.
Hernandez is dealing with a hamstring injury. He could be back with the club in late June, per MLB.com.
“(Hernandez) could begin a rehab assignment as soon as the weekend of June 19-21 if he continues to progress,” the outlet reported.
This season, Hernandez is hitting at a .276 batting average. The slugger has posted seven home runs and 31 RBIs. His OPS is at .784 on the campaign.
Hernandez also missed time last season, when he suffered a groin injury.
“I think [we’re] just making sure that his swing is back, so we can kind of pick up where we left off. That’s the thing we didn’t do last year,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said about Hernandez, per the New York Post. “He missed some time, and then we kind of just got him back in the lineup, and he just wasn’t right. So just to make sure he’s in a good spot physically, and then his swing is kind of reflective of that.”
The Dodgers lead the NL West this season with a 46-27 record. The team has a comfortable eight game lead in the division, heading into Tuesday.
Los Angeles plays Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Dodgers have six wins in the last 10 games. Dodgers fans hope that Hernandez is back with the club soon.
