Rex Ryan back at Jets minicamp, for a good reason

The New York Jets are currently participating in mandatory minicamp as they gear up for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. The Jets are hoping to bounce back after a brutal 2025 campaign, after which many fans were surprised to learn that the team would be bringing back head coach Aaron Glenn.

On Tuesday, the Jets had a special visitor in attendance at minicamp: former head coach Rex Ryan, per Rich Cimini on X, formerly Twitter.

Ryan now works at ESPN, spewing hot takes on shows like “NFL Countdown” every Sunday ahead of that weekend’s slate of games.

FOX Sports NFL insider Ralph Vacchiano also noted that Ryan’s son, Seth, is the Jets’ passing game coordinator, which could have something to do with his attendance at practice.

Ryan was the head coach the last time the Jets won a playoff game, making it all the way to the AFC Championship back in 2010, before falling into their current era of mediocrity, which has extended for the better part of two decades. New York didn’t show many signs of turning things around last year in the aftermath of the failed Aaron Rodgers experiment.

In fact, so helpless was the situation for the Jets last year that the team opted to part ways with two of its top players, Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, at the trade deadline in order to stockpile future assets.

Still, there is some hope that the Jets could start to turn things around this season, thanks in part to the arrival of pass rusher David Bailey, whom the team selected with the number two overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft.

In any case, the Jets will kick off their 2026 season on September 13 against the Tennessee Titans.
