The New York Yankees have been doing a solid job of weathering their current injury storm, currently sitting at 43-27 ahead of this week’s series against the Chicago White Sox. Aaron Judge is out of the lineup for several weeks due to a ribcage issue, but the Yankees’ offense has been humming right along despite the star’s absence.
Pitching is one area where the Yankees would like to have another starting-caliber talent, and the hottest name on the market is Detroit Tigers star Tarik Skubal. Recently, ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan broke down the latest intel on the trade market for Skubal, including both the Yankees and the reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
“Of course the Dodgers would love to add him to a rotation… but even the Yankees would love to have Tarik Skubal. They could have Cam Schlittler, and Max Fried, and Gerrit Cole, and Carlos Rodon, and Will Warren, and Clarke Schmidt, and they would still pay a hefty sum to go out and get Tarik Skubal, because he’s the kind of guy who wins you World Series,” said Passan, via the Rich Eisen Show, per SportsCenter on X, formerly Twitter.
Indeed, if the Yankees were to add Skubal to a rotation that is already one of the deepest in the league, they would take another step toward ending their nearly two-decade World Series drought. Helping the Yankees in that quest is the fact that the AL has been quite underwhelming this year, with New York currently having the best record in the league.
In any case, the Yankees will kick off their series against the White Sox on Tuesday.
