The New York Knicks are just a few days removed from winning the 2026 NBA championship by defeating the San Antonio Spurs in five games. The Knicks are now in full-on celebration mode, which will continue later this week with a parade through the streets of Manhattan.
Throughout their playoff run, numerous celebrities made high-profile appearances at Knicks games both at home and on the road, but recently, Karl-Anthony Towns made sure to shout out the lesser-known fans who supported New York during their run.
“In my mind, the real celebrities are the ones in the 200’s and the nosebleeds,” said Towns, per Kris Pursiainen of ClutchPoints on X, formerly Twitter.
Of course, attending any playoff games at Madison Square Garden, especially the NBA Finals, was not exactly an activity for the common folks, as tickets just to get in the building for Games 3 and 4 against the Spurs soared toward $10,000.
Still, it was a classy response from Towns to acknowledge those fans that might not get the same airtime on ESPN telecasts as Timothee Chalamet or Taylor Swift.
Meanwhile, the Knicks are poised to bring back mostly the same core of players next season, although they do have some notable free agents, including both Mitchell Robinson and Landry Shamet, each of whom played a critical role in the team’s run to the title. After falling down 2-1 to the Atlanta Hawks in the first round, the Knicks finished the postseason with a 15-1 surge, and now have hoisted their first NBA title since the 1973 season.
Up next for the Knicks is the championship parade, which is set to take place on Thursday throughout the crowded streets of Manhattan.
