The U.S. Open starts Thursday, and all eyes will be on Scottie Scheffler as he aims to earn the career Grand Slam at a historically fast rate. Of course, he won’t surpass Tiger Woods for the fastest ever, but he would become the second player behind Tiger Woods to complete the Grand Slam on his first attempt. His 2025 win at The Open gave him a chance at this feat in 2026.
Rory McIlroy completed the Grand Slam in 2025 after his win at The Masters, then repeated in 2026. Socttie and Rory are the two best golfers in the world right now, and it isn’t particularly close. When it’s time for a major, these two step up and give the world what they want: a great showing with a chance to be in the final grouping on Sunday. Whenever these two are paired up with each other, it’s a must-watch golf. That isn’t the case in 2026 for the first two rounds, but you never know what can happen on the weekend.
The tee times for the U.S. Open have been revealed, and we will take a look at the key groupings, highlighted by Scheffler and McIlroy.
At 7:30 ET, Cameron Young, Brooks Koepka, and Chris Gotterup will tee off as one of the more popular groups on Thursday, featuring a five-time major winner and the No. 3 overall player in the world. Gotterup also has a win on tour this season at the Waste Management Open. Koepka injured his hand over the weekend and withdrew from the RBC Canadian Open.
At 7:52 ET, McIlroy will start on the back nine alongside his pal Tommy Fleetwood and Ludvig Åberg. Fleetwood won the Tour Championship in 2025. Åberg is ranked 13th in the world.
At 8:15 ET, Scheffler will be joined by reigning champion J.J. Spaun and amateur golfer Mason Howell.
2026 PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai will begin on the back nine alongside Jason Day and Collin Morikawa at 1:14 ET for the late window. This will be followed by Bryson DeChambeau, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Victor Hovland at 10:25, also on the back nine.
Hideki Matsuyama, Xander Schauffele, and Justin Thomas are at 1:47 ET on the front nine, and the last group mentioned will be Justin Rose, Jon Rahm, and Jordan Spieth at 2:09 ET on the back nine.
