A busy summer transfer window has continued at Tottenham Hotspur. After finishing in 17th place for the second straight season in the Premier League, Tottenham has gotten off to a blazing start since last season ended. With the window now officially open, Spurs have locked in their third summer signing. This time, Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke will reportedly move to north London. Per football insider Fabrizio Romano and multiple sources on X (formerly Twitter), van Hecke will join Tottenham on a £52m deal.

Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi, hired at the end of March to save Spurs from relegation, will be reunited with van Hecke after the Dutch international’s World Cup slate. After signing left back Andy Robertson and center back Marcos Senesi on free transfers from Liverpool and Bournemouth, respectively, van Hecke will likely join Senesi at center back. Fellow Dutch international Micky Van de Ven, captain Cristian Romero, Radu Dragusin, Kevin Danso, and Luka Vuskovic are also options at center back for De Zerbi.
Last season’s 17th-place finish was even more harrowing than 2024-25’s. That season ended with Tottenham’s first trophy since 2008 with their Europa League triumph. However, former manager Ange Postecoglou was fired due to the team’s poor Premier League performance. His replacement, Thomas Frank, failed miserably at Spurs after coming over from fellow Premier League side Brentford. After Frank was sacked, his interim replacement, Igor Tudor, sank the team even closer to relegation, leading to his firing as well.
De Zerbi’s experience at Brighton prepared him to take over Tottenham at the end of March. Then, the club saved their season with a 3-2-1 final stretch, highlighted by a final day 1-0 win over Everton at home. Now, De Zerbi looks to continue to mold Tottenham into his image. The additions of Robertson, Senesi, and van Hecke are just the start. How will Spurs look once this summer transfer window ends?
