Nike further confirmed the partnership in comments obtained by Complex News.
“We are thrilled to welcome Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to the Nike Basketball signature family. Coming after back-to-back MVP seasons, we are excited to build on Shai’s incredible impact with Converse as one of the most creative leaders in the game.”
Alexander’s departure from Converse concludes a six-year journey for the Thunder star. Alexander joined the brand in 2020 and re-upped his contract in 2024. Along with the contract extension, he was given the title of Creative Director of Congress Basketball. The contract at the time was described as “lucrative.”
“At Converse, we serve creators. And Shai embodies every sense of the word. He is constantly pushing the edge of style, whether through his incredible play on the court, or his personal creativity off the court. This expanded partnership is a natural progression of our collaboration, and we look forward to introducing Shai’s signature line and creating the next phase of Converse Basketball, together,” Converse CEO Jared Carver said in a statement in April 2024, per Shams Charania.
In 2025, his inaugural signature sneaker called the Shai 001 was released. The release coincided with the Thunder’s championship victory, and Alexander was featured on the cover of NBA 2K26 with a gold edition of the sneaker.
