4-star CB picks Nebraska football over Washington, Indiana

Nebraska football has been stuck in neutral to a degree under head coach Matt Rhule, but the Cornhuskers started to get things moving in the right direction in 2025. Now, Rhule and his staff are building a strong core for the future.

On Tuesday, Nebraska got a big commitment in the class of 2027 on the defensive side of the ball. Four-star cornerback Jailen Hill chose Nebraska over some of the top programs in the Big Ten, such as Indiana and Washington, per Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.

Indiana has become an extremely formidable obstacle for the entire Big Ten when it comes to recruiting, so Hill was clearly buying what Rhule was selling. He is the type of recruit who can help get Nebraska to where the Hoosiers are in the conference hierarchy.

Hill is a four-star recruit out of St. John Bosco, one of the top high school football programs in the nation, so he has plenty of experience playing football on the big stage. He is the No. 38-ranked cornerback in the class of 2027 and the No. 29-ranked player in his class from the state of California, per On3 Sports and Rivals. Rhule and company will be thrilled to get one of the top players in one of the most talent-rich states in the nation.

With this commitment, Rhule and company continue to build out what is a very respectable recruiting class in 2027. The Cornhuskers now have the No. 17-ranked high school class in 2027, which is good for the sixth-best class in the Big Ten. Texas A&M and Miami (FL) top the list in 2027 at the moment, with everyone else chasing behind.

The class of 2027 is a big improvement for Rhule and company from 2026, where Nebraska finished with just the 87th-best class in the nation. That clearly isn’t going to cut it for a program that has championship aspirations in the near future under Rhule. Maybe Hill and the rest of the star-studded 2027 class will be the group that gets this Nebraska program back to the top of the Big Ten and into the College Football Playoff picture.
