Chandler Parsons puts mad disrespect on Knicks’ Jalen Brunson’s Finals MVP win

The New York Knicks are still celebrating their first NBA championship in 53 years. There is, however, some debate surrounding Jalen Brunson’s place in basketball history. Just days after Brunson delivered a Finals MVP performance for the ages, former NBA forward Chandler Parsons downplayed the Knicks star’s championship run a bit. During a comparison segment, Parsons was asked to stack Brunson’s 2026 Finals MVP campaign against some of the greatest title-winning performances in league history. His takes were quite surprising.

Parsons rejected Brunson’s case against a long list of legends. That included Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Tim Duncan, Dwyane Wade, Dirk Nowitzki, Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kawhi Leonard.

In fact, Parsons only gave Brunson a clear edge over Jaylen Brown’s championship run. He also narrowly placed him ahead of Paul Pierce’s 2008 Finals MVP performance.

Of course, this won’t sit well with Knicks fans. Facing a double-digit second-half deficit on the road, the Knicks captain erupted for a franchise-record 45 points. That included a dominant fourth-quarter stretch that powered New York to a 94-90 victory and a 4-1 series triumph. Whether Parsons intended it or not, his remarks have added fuel to an intriguing conversation.

Brunson’s 2026 NBA Finals performance was one of the defining postseason runs of the modern era. The star guard captured a unanimous Finals MVP award after averaging 32.6 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 38.9 percent from three-point range. By leading the Knicks to their first title since 1973, Brunson secured his place in franchise history. That’s even if some analysts remain reluctant to elevate his run among the sport’s all-time greatest championship performances.
